Eldhose Bird Tours offers one of the finest Birding expeditions you can find in Kerala as well as other southern parts of India (Tamilnadu & Karnataka). For the past 22 years we have been organizing mesmerizing bird tours that offer quality birding adventures, expertly guided by our passionate and experienced professional tour leaders.
About the Founder
Eldhose Bird Tours founded by Eldhose K.V – a pioneer and expert bird guide. His interest in birding sparked off when he came upon a book by Dr. Salim Ali titled ‘Birds of Kerala’, when in school. Soon, he started sighting the birds listed in the book and began making notes. Back then, he had no access to binoculars and had to rely on bird sounds to help identify the same. What started of a hobby grew to an intense passion. He focuses on birding in whole of South India and he has been leading bird tours since 1999.
In 1999, Eldhose had the opportunity to assist in the production of the BBC series, “Life of Birds”. He identified the habitat and three nests of the elusive Rufous Woodpecker. In appreciation of his knowledge and effort, Sir David Attenburough gifted Eldhose with a pair of binoculars and a pre-release copy of the series that started off a profession in birding. The previous sixteen years of birding were done without any visual aids. This enhanced his capability to identify birds by their calls.
In 2000, he was also provided a grant by the OBC (Oriental Bird Club of UK) for study the breeding biology of the Srilankan Frogmouth. Eldhose has been fortunate to lead the South-Indian bird tours of internationally renowned bird watchers such as Jon Hornbuckle (www.jonathanhornbuckle.webs.com – SRILANKA & SOUTHERN INDIA: Feb-March 2002.), Peter Kenston, Pamela C Rasmussen.
Eldhose knew Thattekad like the back of his hand, and he understood the behaviour (and whereabouts) of all resident and migratory birds – the region had its fair share of winter migrants. Though not formally trained to study birds, his passion, love and the sheer intuitive understanding of them that he seemed to naturally possess, made him gain such expertise.
